Brother Chuck opened our worship service today with a reading from Psalms 100. We had a guest speaker (Chris Wright) who shared a message from Psalm 73:1-28 (Psalm of Asaph). This scripture explores the struggle between faith and doubt, particularly the envy felt by Asaph towards the prosperity of the wicked. It reveals that divine justice transcends earthly appearances, reminding believers that what seems unfair in life may not reflect God's ultimate plan. The Psalm teaches several lessons for overcoming feelings of envy and doubt, such as purifying one's heart, being patient, and trusting God. Asaph's journey illustrates a spiritual crisis where he grapples with bitterness and discontent, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of God's goodness. This Psalm serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of faith when we are dealing with the challenges we face in life. Who cannot say at some point in our lives that we have experienced a situation that makes us ask why? Why me? Why now? We think, "why am I finding myself in this predicament?" Oftentimes it is Christians who suffer and the wicked seem to prosper. No matter how much we do, it never seems to be enough. How is it that the righteous are burdened but the wicked are not? Asaph notices the prosperity of the wicked, the oppression of the righteous, and the mockery of God, and he got disturbed in his spirit.
